Review

2005-10-04 - CONCERT OF BLINDING LIGHTS! submitted by Josh Mitchell

Last night I saw U2 and I have to tell you I am still trying to ply my jaw off the dirty floor of the Banknorth Garden.

I entered the building as a mere mortal and left it as an enthusiastic disciple of Bono.

Now, to give you a little history, before last night I wasn't even a real fan. I've never even thought about going to a show. I don't have any of their songs on my I-POD. I've even been known to turn the radio dial when some of their tunes invaded my listening space.

Yeah, after witnessing the musical spectacle of their live show all that is about to change. It was on par with a religious experience. It dwarfed any other concert I have ever been to and I am placing it on my highlight reel which includes shaking Bill Clinton's hand and touching Michael Jordan's back.

I was so close to the stage I am still wiping Edge's Irish sweat off my forehead. And let's talk about Bono. Who is this guy? I've read about his overt articulation of politics (and they were mad present last night) but truly the guy is like a living demigod in an active leprechaun's body.

Put bluntly: the dude is mesmerizing. I couldn't take my eyes off of him - in a gay way. He commanded the stage and sung with such passion it was hard to look away.

So I can cross one of the must things to do in a lifetime off my list. I've sat in the Monster seats at Fenway. I've seen Niagara Falls (how come it never lands?). I've been to Key West. I've done a shot of Wild Turkey. Now all I have to do is sleep with a supermodel and my puzzle will be complete.

Let me know if anyone has Tyra Banks' cell phone number.
