Review

2005-09-26 - soapbox submitted by Karll

According to Bono by tonight's evening news, everything will be right with the world; no more third world debt, and a peaceful united Ireland. No mention of the Iraq war, terrorism, or hurricanes, at least that I could make out - oh yes, and about the concert...
If I would have just had that soapbox that Bono was standing on, I would have had a lot better view from the floor of what was a pretty entertaining show. This was my fourth U2 show, and while it didn't come close to the multi-media frenetic blitzkrieg of 92's Zoo-TV tour, it was way better than the insipped self- lovefest POP tour, and maybe just a hair stronger than the the Elevation tour. Less energy vs. more quality. Tough call.
The band sounded a little messy on some of the newer numbers, but tightened things up considerably on most of the important stuff.
Although Bono has more charisma than Bill Clinton, without the Edge, U2 might just sound like any other pop/rock band. There is something about the combination of Bono's vocal embellishments and the Edge's ringing guitar that skewers the heart and shivers the spine. Larry and Adam are no slouches either.
Lately Bono has been thanking the crowd for giving U2 the "good life"; thank you U2 for giving us music to live by...
