Review
2005-09-25 - WOW!!! submitted by stuwell lets set the scene! i love U2 n had been waitin for months for this gig. I live in hartlepool england and had to undergo a 6 hour journey there (n back in the same day) but it was all worth it. got to the stadium n got ma tee n it was straight it. We had GA tix so it was lik where to go? we joined onto the back of the queue not knowing where it was going n it was only the one to get us into the very centre. We ended up slightly infront and to the right of the right b-stage so we were close enough to see the band as real ppl, not just blobs, but far enough away to see that huge screen that just made the night. The band were awesome, rattling off the hits like there was no tomorrow. I've heard alot of complaints about the sound but i didnt hear it to be honest. Apart from the edge being a little bit on the quiet side the mix was pretty good with Adam n Larry setting up a real driving rythm between them for The Edge and Bono to work off. Bono's vocals seemed on fine form tonight. After hearing some of their live stuff i wasnt too sure whether i'd like what i heard but he was belting each melody out with a sharp accuracy. The stlist was unreal if not a little too predictable. It would be nice if they mixed it up a bit like they do on the American tour but i could predict what song was comin next. Wild Horses was a welcome change tonight. I also read that noone seemed to respond to Bonos plea to take out our phones... well i have to beg to differ, phones flew out where i was. The crowd was awesome to. U2 seemed to keep us waiting after the support & the atmosphere was almost at fever pitch and when they flew into vertigo it was unreal. One of the most memorable moments had to be when the big screen really came into action in City Of Blinding Lights. It couldnt have been timed more perfectly. Things had just begun to get dark with the sun havin gone behind the stadium in the closing minutes of Interpols set and when the screen really came on it was a spine tingling moment. It also played it's key Zoo TV role in the intro to Zoo Station and its belted out the obscure comments during The Fly. Although the 2nd closing vertigo was kinda cool at the time looking back it seemed badly miscalculated. Vertigo is a jumpy upbeat song, excellent for an opener but for a closer... i dont think so. Something more along the lines of 40 would have been great! a good singalong goodbye song. But i aint complainin. It was the best night of my life and catapulted U2 to the greatest band on the planet in my opinion back
