Review

2005-09-17 - Best show ever.... submitted by Rob Manias

Well after 6 months of staring at them...and avoiding as much as I could about the 'tour' the night came.

With anticipation I took my seats at the ACC, knowing that they would be left vacant with me more then likley standing, shouting and jumping in a nearby aisle in a very short period of time.

Then it happened...the lights dimmed, the beat picked up and the stadium filled up to a roar that would scare the devil out of heaven and earth; Bono and the boys had graced the stage.

Who cares if this was the 3rd of 4 here and the start of a 3rd leg criss-crossing the globe, this was OUR concert with OUR U2...no one else in the world was going to have this moment like us...and we let the band know...

The opening chords of 'City of Blinding Lights' greeted the masses...as Bono orchestrated a fever pitch out of what seemed to be millions, but was closer to 20,000 insane U2 fans. As he took us through the ups and downs of a 22 song set, directing the crowd much as a conductor would a symphony; my how Bob has rubbed off.

We chanted, begged for more, sung along and ultimately crashed to reality after the last of the chants of '40' subsided...as this fan stood, hoarce, sweaty and tired from his vantage point over the stage...as Larry Mullen Jr. slowly pulled back the sound, much like you would a curtain to seperate a room; not putting up a wall, but once again putting the mystery and awe that is U2 into the air as Bono, Edge, Adam and finally Larry slipped off of the stage, one by one, leaving us to go about our business...singing this song.

Larger then life.
Bigger then the world.
Humble like a servant.
As powerful as a general.
