2005-08-04 - The Best Night Of My Life submitted by CiaraWell, we got our tickets the saturday before the monday night concert, i had begun to give up hope until i was offered them at a pretty hefty price but i thought why not there worth it.
We went up to dublin around 1 o clock, i think the gates opened at around 4 o clock. Let Me tell you the atmosphere was magic, you could'nt look either way with out meeting a u2 fan, dublin was sworming with them.
Now on To the main part. THE CONCERT.
they were around 20 minutes late (due to traffic) but it did'nt matter it just got the crowd even more excited, when the support band finished the crowd went ballitic as they knew what was coming next. The mexican wave started which kept us all occupied until the vans started to arrive beside the stage, no one new were to look, until the 4 boys appeared from the back of the stage, i think the rest of the audiense recognised them as there was something of a cheer ;-), oh and i use the term 'cheer' in the highest form of exageration, put it this way i was lucky i got to hear the concert and didn't go deaf there and then.
Bono screamed at us all jumping up and down, the edge, larry and adam all waved at us whilst getting themselves ready, next thing those drum sticks started htting together, we knew what was coming, 'UN, DOUS, TROIS, QUITORZE!!!!!' 'vertigo'!!!.
i forget what order the songs came in all i know is that i sang along to every one of them, sometimes you could'nt hear bono because the crowd were singing so loud. 'where the streets have no name' i think was one of the best.
it was very emotional all night, we looked at the band up on stage who started here in dublin, who walked the same street we did that very day. they played here in croke park 20 years ago and here they were today 2 decades on and bigger than ever. there was a real sense of pride i think, everyone was there for one reason only to listen to the 4 boys who made it, who made ireland proud.
''the boys are back in town'' what a song, bono burst in to this, again at the choros the crowd took over from bono and screamed out the choros. ''have'nt changed, have'nt got much to say but i still think them cats are great''.
all in all it was a night i'll never forget, i looked around and saw kids from the age of 7 to adults who were 70, and they all just got it, what u2 were about.
and one of the things that put a smile on my face is that the 7 year olds could sing the songs word for word just as the people in the 20's 30's could, even songs like 'sunday bloody sunday'. Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry
they truly proved to me that night that they were legends, they were the best band in the world, so passionate about what they were doing and yet had a bit of craic while they were at it.
The Boys Truly Where Back In Town.
