2005-07-10 - With this we might earned another concert! submitted by Jason BourneThat was the greatest concert I have ever been to. Well, in fact, that's the first concert I've ever been to, but no matter how many shows I will ever participate into, I'm sure that's the one to be never outclassed or even approached by anything. Assuming, of course, that it won't be another of U2's.
Anyway, that night in Chorzow I'll never forget, as the band did brilliantly well. I really am lost in words for what they did. A remarkable event. I arrived at the stadium about 6 pm, just in time to see Bono going in a car past the crowd queuing for the gates. We all waved to him and got the similar response. Being not too prone to emotions, I just smiled to myself, but the crowd got extatic and made me ponder what it is going to be when the show really starts. When I entered the pitch, The Magic Numbers were just about to finish and be followed by The Killers after an interval. U2 were to start at 9, by which time all the fans got a bit demolished by the rain, heavy at times. But the weather didn't manage to gentle us down. What's more, from the very begining the crowd was so lively that it seemed as if the concert had already been at full swing, althoug it was on its early stage. "Vertigo" as the opener made the whole stadium jump and swing, then the set from the early records to follow in "I Will Follow" and "Electric Co" plus still quite recent "Elevation". And then came "New Year's Day", the most "Polish" of all the U2 songs and that was visible, as the crowd, part of which I am proud to have been, produced the red (pitch) and white (stands) items to wave them and create a huge Polish flag. Bono, a showman through and through, one of the most self-confident people of all, had at first no idea about what was going on. An amazed and stunned Bono, a view to be never forgotten :)But also moved as well. Having realised the creativity of the fans, he turned his jacket inside out, where it was partly red, to blend into the crowd and show his respect. The remaining part of the concert was also outstanding-Bono's interaction with his fans was great, first, when he invited a girl onstage who he embraced and danced with during the final moments of "All I Want Is You", and then, before "Miracle Drug", another beauty accompanied U2 for a few seconds during which Bono wanted her to translate to the crowd the story about John Paul II, to whom the following song was to be dedicated. Unfortunately, the lady wasn't too knowledgable in the field of the English language, but we all got what Bono wanted to say. The second part of the show kept up with the first and we experienced U2 at their very best. I especially enjoyed "The Fly", supported with an amazing and influential presentation on the screens.
To sum up, the show fully lived up to the expectations, of mine at least, but I guess a vast majority of fans leaving the stadium were more than satisfied. I hope with our commitment and creativity, that, as I've mentioned, didn't fell on deaf ears, we earned U2 blow in again some time in the future. I give the concert 9,5 out of 10. It's not 10, as I hoped for "40" to close the show, a song I really enjoy. It was "Vertigo" one more time, but it doesn't matter at all. Wonderfull experience, this concert.
I would also like to greet a girl, whose cell phone I'd found and returned, and her brother, who then gratefully boosted me with an "energetic drink".
Also, a short guy in black and his friend deserve to be mentioned to have succesfully fought off "the umbrella fans", who shrouded us the stage (there was a moment when a reasonable number of fans would shout with them: "It's not raining! It's not raining!").
And I was the part of it all! Superb! back
