2005-07-09 - Introducing U2 to my twelve year-old son.. submitted by Santiago Rangel

On Christmas Eve my son, Esteban, received his first U2 CD "How to dismantle and Atomic Bomb" from the first moment moment he played the CD he was hooked. I had the same feelings back in the early 80's when I first played "Boy".

As soon as I heard that U2 was coming to the Pond I told my son that he would be attending his first concert. I attend the my first U2 back in 1983 at the L.A. Sports Arena, when Bono ran to the nose bleed section of the arena and them dangled from the balcony and let himself go the crowd below.

From the start of the show when U2 came on stage with the large flashlights I knew we were about to get the same great show that I saw 22 years earlier, and the band did not let us down.

From the opening of Love and Peace or Else to "40" this was a show that my son and I will never forget.

The band played with emotion and tremendous spirit. From Bono's vocals and message relating to the Pope John Paul's passing and the gift of a simple rosary that he had received from the holy father.

Edge's solid guitar playing and constant aggresive rifts made the night one to stand on your feet and enjoy.

Adam Clayton's solid bass and solid support on every number. During one of the closing numbers Clayton took a stroll around the Vertigo Stage and you could tell that he was on.

Larry Mullen Jr. was rocking from "Love and Peace or Else" to the last drum beat of "40".

"How long to sing this song......"
