Review

2005-07-08 - Brand new Poland right in front you submitted by Marcin

It was magic and the gravitation did not exist.

This was my forth U2 show (Popmart-Warsaw '97; Elevation-Vienna '01; Vertigo-Brussel '05). Of course the best moment of the show was when the fans created by ourselves gigantic polish national flag during “New Year’s Day” - a song originally inspired by Lech Walesa – leader of the Solidarity movement to free Poland from communism. Whole stadium became white and red. Well, we were really ONE. Especially, that Bono also took of his jacket and put inside out. He had red jacket's lining. So he became also part of this flag. It was unbelievable, I still have in front of my eyes this view. But we had a chance to see some more special moments, like listening the story about our Papa - John Paul II - before "Miracle Drug". Later, when Bono took Solidarity flag, then the crowd get ecstatic. It was like saying: I remember, I didn't forget about your country's history. During "Beautiful Day" he changed the words and sang: ‘See the world in green and blue / Brand new Poland right in front you’. Also during "All I want is you" he sang "All I want is ... Katowice". And later it was probably during "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" he told: ‘Our prayer, Is for the kingdom come on earth not just in heaven, on earth, build our countries, build our cities… so much possibility in this great country…’ So you see, it was a lot of those special moments, those special words - especially for us. So the atmosphere was really great, great and unique. I have never seen the crowd (well, myself too) who sang, danced, jumped and clapped hands really all the show time. There were no brakes during show's celebrating, during show's enjoying. We were still singing not only the words, but also melodious Bono's words, like: uuuuuuu :-). Bono told us few times: "dziekuje" and the crowd nearly 70.000 people answered: "dzie-ku-je-my". Just a pure magic. Well I lost completely my voice, but I'm absolutely happy, I had a chance to see them together with such a beautiful audience. I am really proud of being part of this crowd. And I want to thank people from: Hungary, Slovakia, Czech, Slovenia, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Latvia, Sweden, Norway and I know there were also people from New Zealand, Australia and from Ireland too of course.
And at the end of the show he invited us to Ireland for a beer. Well, why not to take advantage of his words? I will, for sure.

And at the end I can tell you: God created a lot of beautiful things. Like blood red sky during sunset, singing bird during early morning, summer meadow full of flowers, paintings of Brueghel or Klimt, poetry of Baudelaire and of course U2's music.
