Review
2005-07-01 - U2 at the Millennium Stadium - shame about Oxfam submitted by M1thag0I caught U2 at the Millennium Stadium on Wednesday - it was a *fantastic* show (review to follow).
The only thing that disapointed me was the Stadium/promotor/whoever's treatment of Oxfam.
There was an Oxfam 'Make Poverty History' stand. They were able to take donations for wristbands etc, but were NOT ALLOWED to sell their stock of bi-lingual Make Poverty History t-shirts (£15 a piece).
Someone at the Millennium Stadium told them to put their shirts away. They were classed as merchandise, and in competition with U2's merch - therefore had to be withdrawn.
I thought that sucked. Loads of people were buying U2 shirts - plenty more would've added an MPH shirt to the evening's swag.
I can't imagine anyone from U2 said they couldn't sell the shirts - more likely it was some over-zealous jobsworth at the Millenium Stadium. Still, it would be good if U2 got to hear about that incident. Maybe a donation to Cardiff's Oxfam?
Humph...
