Review

2001-09-02 - Slane Sept 1st submitted by Stefan Eschenbach

english:
Seemed that irish fans didn't get good concerts very often: that was a very poor gig: In my opinion Bono talk only a little to the crowd an it was in summary an emotionless gig with a lot of routine. Compared to the one in Berlin it wasn't filled with emotion and not as political statements filled as in berlin.
It seemed for me, that they played with the knowledge: this is home and they like it whatever we play and on the other hand it is the last of the tour and that must do. It seemed that the laid back under the sun of the spirit of slane of the past and has to do.
The foreplay of "the boys are back in town" from Thin Lizzy, where they where the Supporters back in '81didn't do justice to the wonderful new album, what I think is the best of them. Maybe that we here in Berllin been very demanded and that the groups know that and that this fact results in the trouble they take with their gig.
In Berlin they sung: "How long - to sing this song" and they got three encores. And in Ireland? People sung this ole-oleole-ole as if they are primitively hooligans and only got two encores.
Seemed that the crowd where in collective celebration after Ireland won the soccer-game vs Holland and thats the reason causes loss of critical faculties.
The Supporters: Nely was very fine, Ash wasn't my favorite ever, so this time too, and Moby prepared a very good atmo and encouraged the dancing. tha was very nice, and the duett with Nely topped their gig.

In Berlin singen die Leute "How long - to sing this song" wenn sie Zugaben fordern - und bekamen drei.
