Review
2005-06-15 - Mr Bono for President. submitted by Kevin PhillipsBrilliant Concert, well worth the huge ticket price.
If you only ever get to see one band, U2 has to be it.
I went to the concert at the Glendale arena in Phoenix on the 14th April which I thought was the better of the 2 concerts that I have seen, this was the best outdoor stadium concert I have ever seen.
The Phoenix concert was better for a few reasons, the acoustics were better, the lights coming from the stage were better as it was indoors compared to Manchester being in daylight for the first hour, the interaction with the crowd, the stories that Bono told, and the dramatic enterance at the begining of the show. We were standing right by the ramp at this show.
Don't get me wrong by thinking the Manchester show had nothing going for it, far from it. But by going to the concert in Phoenix it sort of gave you a feeling of what was going to happen at the show in Manchester, no suprise element.
We got to see the show in Manchester from a different view & perspective and it was still worth every penny.
Favourite songs of the night were
Vertigo
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Where The streets Have No Name
Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
City Of Blinding Lights
and my favourite song on the night had to go to
Love And Peace.
This song is absolutely fantastic live.
Was delighted they played Vertigo twice at the concert and I said to myself at the concert would'nt it be good if they played it again!! A fantastic way to open or close a show in my regards.
I would have liked to have seen the guys come onto the stage the same way they opened the concert in Phoenix in pitch darkness with them coming onto the stage with searchlights, I know they could not have done this at the start of the Manchester concert but i thought it wold have been good to do when it got darker, maybe when they came back for the encore.
Songs wise it would have been a perfect set list for me if they had played Stuck In A Moment but beggers can't be choosers.
The acoustics could have been better but I have come to expect that outdoor stadium concerts will never match the indoor arenas for sound.
The stadium concerts appear to have a better atmosphere when watching the crowds jumping up and down.
The light show at the back of the stage was very impressive.
They certainly leave you with the impression of having been to a very powerful concert, the message Bono says about Debt, Africa, Human rights etc..., really makes you stop and think what we take for granted.
The Edge was absolutely fantastic, great riffs coming from his guitar as well as Adam.
Larry seems to play the drums with very little effort but has you rocking away to his beats.
As for Bono, make him President of the World, this man can do no wrong.
U2
I salute you, long may you reign at the top of the music giants for another 25 years.
