Review

2005-06-15 - IN THE STADIUM OF BLINDING LIGHTS submitted by DARREN GUNN

This was yet another life enriching, spiritual experience from the four most powerful men on the planet. Forget the G8, it's U2 that rule the world!!
Its' a shame that the City of Manchester wouldn't allow a late finish for the concert hence most of it being in broad daylight. This was detrimental to the atmosphere for the start of the show and it took a while for the crowd to warm up, and the images on the screen were quite difficult to make out. But when darkness fell the lights took over and the place was erupting!
It doesn't matter to me what set they play, it's seeing and hearing them play it that matters, but, what a set it was with favourites from all the eras. All the songs are totally transitional so playing Vertigo and I Will Follow with The Electric Co. together works. The songs are timeless.
Pride and Streets were the highlight for me along with such powerful version of Zoo Station and The Fly was mesmerizing with it's mind-blowing imagery.
Full credit must also go to the front line crew as the imagery on the screen was stunningly beautiful and thought provoking and the sound quality from the floor, although quieter due to probable local byelaws, was beautifully clear and punchy.
It was just awesome, and I'm going to see it all again at Twickenham on the 18th, AND not only that Cat Deally waved and gave me a smile. What a night!!!
I then ate a whole swiss roll then wanted to vomit!!
