Review

2005-05-24 - Disappointed!!! submitted by Nomull97

Review from the upper deck. Second 204A. Row 16.

This was my second U2 Concert. I saw them at the Vet in 1992 during the Zoo TV tour. Although it was in an outdoor venue, it was much better than the Vertigo Tour.

The stage and lighting were cool. However the spiraling lights got old after the 4th song.

The first half of the concert was great. 7 of the first 8 songs were from HTDAAB. The other song was Gloria. That was great.

I have to clarify one thing from an earlier posting. Bono did say "That's Philadelphia for you", but it wasn't because of the crowd singing. Someone had just thrown a water baloon on stage and almost hit Bono. That's why he said "That's Philadelphia for you". Our city's reputation continues. (Yes, I could see that from the last row in the second level.)

After the first set was done, they played good songs. However, they seemed to lack energy. Just going through the motions. Having the girl on stage was great, but for 2 songs?? Having the girl on stage took everyones attention off the band. This way the rest of the band could get away with standing still.

Edge didn't seem into it at all.

The biggest complaint I had was with the ending. Singing 40 and getting the crowd to chant was great, but then to walk off the stage was lame. Had they come back with one more upbeat song, I probably would have given a much better review of this concert. However, they didn't, and I just don't think they completed it.

After reviewing the other postings I have this to add.

* Bruce Springteen plays for 3 plus hours and leaves nothing behind. U2 punched a time clock and left. The boss is still the best in concert.

* The sound was poor for an indoor venue. They actually sounded better at the vet.

* The opening band SUCKED!!!!

* I'm glad I only paid $50 for the cheap seats. Had I paid more, I would have been very disappointed.

* Rating, 4 out of 10.
