Review

2005-05-13 - A good experience, lots of heart, but they've spoiled us to expect more submitted by Syler Thomas

I'm a big fan, and I was inside the ellipse, so the experience was pretty unparalleled, so I had a great time. The opener was a truly transcendent moment, with Bono coming out right next to where I was standing and the mylar confetti showering down. And it was incredible for them to go WAY back and do classics like An Cat Dubh and Into the Heart.

I was a bit disappointed we didn't get to hear Yahweh and 40 to close it out. Vertigo twice was fun, but come on...I had heard Vertigo enough after the 78th time I had seen the Ipod commercial.

My biggest beef is that this is clearly Elevation Tour: The Sequel. We're so spoiled that these guys reinvent themselves with such frequency that we expect more than that. Sure, the catwalk works, but it was better when it was a heart, not just a circle. There was nothing new there. And if you're gonna have it, bring the band out on it TOGETHER. Don't just have Adam wander around it for no reason a couple times, Larry bangs on the drum for a bit. Also, they brought down the "Boy" album cover at one point. There was no payoff there. If you're gonna do that, then let's see them all. It was sort of out of nowhere.

I am confident that by the fall tour, this show will be much more cohesive, and a lot better. I'm not sure why they chose to film the DVD so early in the tour and not wait till they really had all the kinks worked out. Bottom line: I got my money's worth, and I remain a big, big fan.
