Review

0000-00-00 - quixotic show submitted by Steffan Postaer

Closing their 4 nite stand at the United Center, U2 tossed out the set list and seemed to careen thru their catalogue, with mixed results.
For some reason City of Blinding Lights came after their video dealing with human rights -Huh?
But at least they played Original of the Species, which is this reviewer's favorite song from the new album and, if I read somewhere correctly, Bono's as well. Yet, even though the band asked for the crowds attention, the entire audience reacted as if they never even heard of the song before, let alone heard it before. The perpetual moving throng appeared to just stop, dare I say... bored? Very odd. I love this tune and, even sans symphonic accompanyment, found it to be delivered in a beautiful and personal fashion.
The May 9th show (which I saw too) was most certainly the better one. It was filmed after all. But in some respects I preferred tonite's anyway: More messy and perilous. Plus Bono's voice was in better shape. Curious business regarding the lackluster reaction to "Species" however.
