2009-08-17 - Wembley 2 - My favourite U2 show ever?? .. Maybe!! submitted by DRW from the Midlands

I've seen U2 at Live Aid, Live 8 and every tour since 1987 and I never thought that 1993's Zooropa Tour could ever be beaten. However, 360 Tour at Wembley last night (15th August) has probably done it, and it was to quote their recent hit ,,,,,, simply Magnificent! Ok so we had the cheap seats right up there in the gods, but what a fantastic view of the stadium and the Claw in all its' glory. Support band Glasvegas were ok but from the opening bars of Bowie's "Space Oddity" you could tell that the sound system had gone up several notches and from the moment U2 hit the stage the sound was crystal clear and spectacular. Songs from the new album have been opening every show on this tour and this was no exception with "Breathe, No Line on the Horizon, Get on your Boots and Magnificent" starting proceedings as usual. From there we went into every U2 fans dream with a setlist from U2 heaven. "Until the end of the world" from Achtung Baby is a personal favourite, "Unforgettable Fire" likewise and then a procession of hit after hit. "New Year's Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Stay, Vertigo, City of Blinding Lights, Where the Streets have no name" and so on. The stage design was ingenious and the 360 degree video screen was very clear and amazing when extended.
On recent tours ('01 and '05) Bono has spent considerable time talking/preaching about various political issues close to his heart and, whilst very noble, it has interrrupted the flow of those concerts. Not here though! We had the raising of awareness of the plight of Burma's Aung San Suu Kyi before "Walk On" but in no way did this detract from the flow as in previous years, and it was a very poignant moment.
Just when I thought it couldn't get any better we had an encore of "One" and another of my all time favourites - "Bad". The band even came back for a second encore complete with Bono dressed in a Laser suit, and left after "Ultraviolet", "With or Without you" and "Moment of Surrender".
They were on brilliant form and clearly enjoyed every minute-as did we!
