Review

2009-07-02 - 1983-08-14: Phoenix Park Racecourse submitted by Alastair

I was 12 years old in 1983. The day after I arrived back from a tour of Europe and the Canary Islands with the family I got hold of a ticket to this show. We lived in Belfast and I got a ride down to Dublin on the back of a motorcycle with a friend of my parents. Once we got into the concert ground, the next morning, I was on my own. It was hot. I had on a Sex Pistols T-shirt that said "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN" Some drunk assholes wanted to beat my ass for wearing that shirt; nevermind the fact that I was 12 and they were in their 30's. Anyway, after I escaped, it was a great day. Simple Minds were brilliant. Eurythmics were good also, can't say I blamed Annie Lennox for not wanting to be called an "English Bastard" by bottle throwing morons. A small footnote, there was another band on the bill that day, PERFECT CRIME. The lead singer was a guy named Paul. He was a friend of the family. I don't know what ever became of Paul or the band. I live in the USA now and still have my ticket stub.
