Review
2001-07-11 - Globen show again amazing submitted by Pasi NurmiGloben ( Globe Arena..) 9.7.2001 Stockholm
For anyone who was there at Globen when
the ZooTv tour hit the arena ten years ago
this concert at the same venue was something special. Even the band itself considers the ZooTv Globen concert as one of their best ever - so this was a concert not to be missed. And yep, after seeing the Elevation show on Monday 9th, what can I say..pure magic :-)
Having read reviews from the North American leg of the tour I doubt much, if anything, has changed when it comes to stage set & technical details.
Setlist was somewhat changed with songs from the new album being replaced by songs such as Stay and Wake Up Dead Man.
Opener was again Elevation - again with full lights on at the arena. The crowd went crazy from the very beginning. ( before the show even the guitar tech. doing the sound check got cheers from the crowd!...). Beautiful Day followed. Well, you know the setlist so I wont go through it. Just a couple of my own comments..
Kite followed Mysterious Ways, and what a beautiful song it is. Bono himself commented introducing the song how beautiful tune it is and how he had cried to tears writing the song.
Introducing I Will Follow Bono told how he still remembers playing the same song in Stockholm 20 years ago "still play the same songs..". Sunday Bloody Sunday was played with incredible power, a song that I at one time thought should be dropped from the setlists..but when played with this kind of energy..no way..one of the highlights of the night. Someone threw an Irish flag at Bono during the song - he never picked it up.
After Stuck in A Moment, one of my favorites from the new album..came four songs during which the feeling at Globen was something incredible, just amazing..: Stay ( a song which was premiered as a live song in the same city during the Zooropa tour ) , Bad ( perhaps my biggest favourite of all U2 songs), Where the Streets.. ( during which the crowd went just completely nuts! ) and Pride.
Band left the stage wishing everybody good night ( yeah right!..).
Encores started with Bullet the Blue Sky, which I personally think maybe should be dropped off the setlist..specially if it's not being followed by Running to Stand Still. As it wasn't. With or Without You followed. Band clearly was having a good time..during the Fly Bono again was running all around the heart stage. One was just as amazing as it always is. A nice surprise was to hear Wake Up Dead Man, a great reminder that Pop had its moments.. Walk On followed after which the band left the stage.
High lights of the night?
Kite - a future U2 classic
Sunday Bloody Sunday - some energy..
Stay - memories from the Olympic Stadion Zooropa '92..
Bad
Where the Streets Have No Name - just ask anyone who was there..
Wake Up Dead Man - forget the crappy stuff- Pop still had some good tunes.
The Fly - Achtung Baby absolutely rules.. ;-)
One - as great as ever..
Let downs ? none. zero. Trust me.
So, a GREAT setlist. Really stylistic stage set. All in all, a show not to be missed. And to see it at Globen..thank you
