Review

2009-03-01 - Great show submitted by David Collins

While on my second date with my wife we were wandering around New Haven and happened upon the U2 show that night. Neither of us had heard of the band, but since it was free admission with college ID night we decided to go. The show as I remember was very energetic and well recieved by the audience, the "Sellout in New Haven" cd cover title shown on this page is a total misnomer as there were not even 200 folks within the 500 person venue. I do remember "I Will Follow" being played twice and just figured that they played it twice because it was so well recieved the first time they played the song, or maybe just did not have enough songs in thier catalogue to play a full headlining show. The highlight of the evening was hanging out in a booth in the bar after the show and having Edge and Bono come out for a few drinks, they actually sat at our booth and talked with us for about one half hour. The Edge was wearing a fedora and even placed it on my wifes head fooling around. They told us they had promoted thier show by playing on the steps of Woolsey Hall at Yale University during the afternoon and had a grand time.Needless to say Suzanne and I have been lifelong fans ever since and recently spent her 43rd birthday in the Ellipse at Madison Square Garden during the Vertigo tour, talk about going full circle.
