Review

2005-04-21 - Moving and Incredible Show Rocks the Can submitted by StoneAirHeart

Last night I sat in the ninth row of section 144 at the Pepsi Center. I've never been so close to U2 in my life. We could see every little bead of sweat on Adam's brow! As the show began, I could see Bono and Larry enter the stage through the curtains at the bottom.
The show began with both of them at front center stage. Larry seemed happy to have a prominent place for a change. After that, the show was non-stop emotion, rhythm and beauty--plus a few silly moments. Bono laughed as he forgot some of the words to Beautiful Day and we laughed with him. It made them all real. Then, towards the end, Larry and the Edge forgot their marks and had to run to center stage while Bono sang song lyrics over again, "Let's try this again," he said between verses.
The two most amazing parts of the show, for me, took place when Bono pulled a small boy up on the catwalk with him during "City of Blinding Lights." He was so gentle, parting the jumbo-tron-like lightbulbs at sidestage for the boy to pass through. The boy waved shyly in every direction at Bono's prompting. He must be a wonderful father.
The second moment? When Bono donned a white blindfold, held up his hands in surrender and knelt on the stage a la a prisoner at Abu Graeb (spelling) and sang "These are the hands that built America." How potent, moving and true. A phenomenal show. An incredible band. Thank you Yaweh that I live in America and have disposable income to enjoy shows like this!
