It was a very short set because Bono spent the day in hospital trying to regain his vocal cords. The day was hot as usual, 32 celsius. The concert promoter Barry Fey came onstage after Lone Justice and read a prepared statement from the band about MLK and the Governor's refusal to observe the holiday. The world press recorded all the concert as this was the opening night of the Joshua Tree tour. U2 made the hall into a club, not too difficult because there's seating for 11000 there, Bono would hold the mic out and even though the music was released 2 weeks previous, everyone knew the words. After 80 minutes U2 was off, the current single With or Without You would have to wait until two days later for its premiere.
