Slept al fresco in the park the night before the gig. Ticket in shoe. Woke up to see tyre tracks a few feet from where we lay in the long grass. Very close. My friend had been robbed while we slept. Ticket gone. It was in a book in a lunchbox which the thief threw away . Luckily we found it a few hours later. Among the first to enter the venue, we threw our sleeping bags over the stage barrier, to be retrieved from the bouncers after the gig. The day was hot hot hot. Stayed up front for all the support bands,but the crush got too strong. It was twenty one years ago. I remember the heat, the bouncers throwing basins of water on the crowd, the music being stopped to get the audience off of the roof of the stand, punks swinging chains and pissing Annie Lennox off calling her an English bastard. Twilight is the one song that I really remember, as the band played it just at that time of the day. And Bono dragged his dad out on stage. We were packed in like sardines as somebody had kicked a fence down. Loads got in for free.
