Review
2003-03-29 - New Zooland--Zoo Tv Lancaster Park Review submitted by Glenn RodgersI havent heard the Bootleg of this one so i dont know about quality-- I was at the show and worked as road crew on that one so i can tell you what I know. It was about 4 years since they had been to Christchurch (Lovetown tour--which was an amazing experience), this concert was a little more subdued--crowd numbers were down to 35,000 (65,000 were at the lovetown)--a combination of a cold night and kiwis hit by the recession meant that the $65 ticket cost was too much for most (lovetown only cost $45). The show was great but was much less intimate because of all the ZooTv images bombarding us--I can remember that after Bono and the guys finished their intro of "zoo station" and "the fly" there wasnt much applauding as the crowd stood awestruck like theyd just been hit by a bomb (in a good way)--I think people really expected the power and intensity that Lovetown had been 4 years earlier where the crowd just connected with them and the whole show was like a frenzied wave of emotion and exhilaration--this was different--the guys had put on an amazing show but they had also succeeded in cutting off the intimacy by putting a huge tv screen between them and the audience--personally I loved it and really connected with the ZooTv message but i think the people of Christchurch can be forgiven for being a little subdued--Im told that if you listen to the two bootlegs (lovetown vs zootv at christchurch) there is a huge crowd difference--now you know why!--pesonally I really hope you guys come back---people really do love you here!! The most bizarre moment of the night was during the "video confessional" when one woman told the crowd "im really into bestiality, anyone got a dog?" back
