Review
2007-03-26 - Dalton Brothers Tidbit submitted by Dan Kline (afdtk)This is not so much a full review as just a tidbit about the Dalton Brothers.
As we waited for the opening act to begin, it became apparent that something was wrong because the starting time for the show had long come and gone. It looked like Los Lobos was going to be a no show for the opening act. The crowd was a little restless. (I was on the 8th row, Adam's side. This was back when U2 could save fan club members tickets to a couple of their preferred venues. I lost about 20% of the hearing in my right ear that night, but don't regret it a bit. I did learn to take earplugs to shows after that though).
After awhile longer, someone announced that there was going to be a replacement act because Los Lobos's plane was late from LA, and when the Dalton Brothers were announced, my friend and I (who'd been trading bootlegs with folks around the country for awhile) went nuts. The people around us thought we were crazy and we tried to tell them that the Daltons were U2 doing country music. They couldn't believe it and thought it was some kind of joke we were trying to pull on them.
But when the band did 'Lucille' for one of the encore numbers, everyone around us thought we were heroes because we knew it before anyone else did (or at least around us).
So, I think the Dalton peformance was more spontaneous than planned and the band had great fun. I think Adam had some kind of cloth-mop wig on and everyone else was dressed in these ridiculous countrified outfits. It was a real treat and one of my favorite U2 concert memories. back
