Review

2006-12-03 - Words Can't Describe....... submitted by Andrew ( Biggest U2 Fan at My School!!!!!)

Words Cant Describe U2 Live. I know i have taken ages to write this review, but i haven't had any time. I attended the first Sydney Show, along with the other 80 000 People, and, wow. I was prepared for most of the songs as i have the Chicago DVD and had looked at previous play lists, and every single one i enjoyed!!!. Perhaps the biggest surprises of the night in terms of how well they were performed, were Until the end of the world, angel Of Harlem, Saints are coming, One, and Kite. I mean every song was amazing, but i expected songs like Streets and With or without to be brilliant, and they were, or even One, was so much beter than i had hoped.

The show started with the beautiful City of blinding lights, which was a brilliant performance, followed by vertigo and elevation, and until the end of the world, arguably the more ''rock'' songs of the main set. Then, the best versions of The ''day'' songs i have ever heard, i thought beautiful day couldn't possibly be matched. Then one of my favorite songs, Walk on, along with a great performance of Miss Sarajevo and Sometimes......, which i must say, the moment that Bono hit the main notes, almost had my friend and i in tears, he is amazing.

Following this was the 3 'war songs', all done brilliantly, then Pride, brilliant!! then my favorite song of all time, Where the streets have no name, and, this to me pleased the crowd immensely, i was in B grade reserve and from what i could tell just about the whole stadium was standing, it was just, unbelievable. The one, and the stadium looked great with the phones lighting it up, but the songs performance was great.

Then, the 2 other loud 'rock' songs of the night, the fly and zoo station appeared, with the PM and Peter Garret on the Zoo Tv's, these were both brilliant performances. Then, With or without you almost stole the show for me, was amazing, and i am rather envious of the lady who got to go on stage with bono, even if i am a guy!!!!!

The rendition of angel of harlem has made me love the song now. The crowd involvement was probably the strongest of any of the nights songs (except perhaps with or without you) and, was truly amazing. The saints are coming (prior to this) was also a great song and it's a shame it's impossible to find a version of it without green day. Kite, great closer even though i was hoping for 40.

All in all, the show was great, Favourites were Sunday Bloody Sunday, Beautiful day, Streets, With or without, angel, One, Love and peace, .......you get my point.

The one thing i would like to say, is that U2, namely Bono seemed genuinely happy and energetic. They made numerous references to NSW and sydney which added to the show, Bono joked alot more than i expected and was, like i said rather happy, but it was real, from the dancing during the musical parts or even the reference to his glasses and his father (also an irish dream prior to streets), the fact is he is an awesome entertainer and should be commended for this.

Well Done U2, i know you will be back and next time ill have standing tickets!!!!!
