Review
2006-11-27 - When Bad was GREAT submitted by Geremy TassoneI went to both Melbourne gigs, and I must say that I enjoyed Sunday night a whole lot more. Let me tell you why.
I queued up for 26 hours (first in line) to buy "gold tickets" for the first show. I was seated in row A to the right of the stage...which was very comfortable for my 7 month pregnant wife. It was her first U2 concert and she loved it. However the floor was having a much better time and I couldn't make out anything spoken (what was Bono saying about Paul McCartney?). Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have wasted my money on seats. Next time, G.A. all the way.
Sunday night, queued from 1.30pm and scored a position next to the right-hand side pod. Seeing the Saturday night concert was excellent research!
This concert was the most exhilarating performance I have ever seen them undertake. The set list was superior to the previous night to say the least. Everything about the show was out of this world and I have been further inspired by this band. Bono's performance of Miss Sarajevo made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Truly sublime. I love Kite, one of the best songs on the album...but I am so glad the boys rewarded us with an extra song to finish the night. 'Bad' was a great choice. If only they had gone on to exit in traditional fashion with '40'! That would have been awesome. Thank you U2 for honouring your promise to return. PS; I hope U2 release a full length concert of the Vertigo Tour on DVD. The extra DVD on the deluxe version of U218 shows a handful of songs shot in Milan but doesn't quite cut it. I hope a new DVD is in the pipeline. back
