Review
2006-11-21 - Awesome show! submitted by ChriscoThis was my first ever U2 concert. I'd heard the ad for the concert on the radio and I didn't even know who U2 were but I knew all the song snippets in the ad and thought "wow, are they all U2 songs? - I love all those songs - I'm definitely going to that concert.". I bought a couple of tickets to, what was at that stage, the last Sydney concert - back row at the side. Of course they went on to sell 3 more sell outs - the last two seemingly bought out by people who'd gone to the first few concerts!
EVERYONE stood up for the first song and remained up and dancing for the entire show. The Unforgettable Fire album had recently come out and they played some great tracks from that album - Pride went off big time as usual.
I still remember the ending: the classic "wall of guitar" stuff from the Edge in "I will follow" then ending with a quite one - 40. The whole croud were left singing in the dark, "I will sing, sing a new song x2 How long, to sing this song? x2" for about 5 minutes after the band left the stage - we were kind of hoping that they'd come back for another encore but then they turned the lights on and then we knew it was really over...
I've now seen them 3 more times in Sydney since then. This first gig still holds special memories for me although the most recent, Vertigo on 11 Nov 2006 was brilliant and I had a great time - with my 14 year old son! back
