2001-07-01 - Unforgettable in Every Way submitted by Nilaye ThakrarWho else but U2 could bring down the house with the lights still on? I think that we all lost our self control when the energy and passion of the band cut into our souls. Rather than, playing in front of a plethora of new media and towering props, U2 executed an intimate performance that concentrated on the passion that they have for the music that they play and the fans that have supported them over the years. It was great to have the band introduced and to see Bono get involved with the crowd inasmuch as he did. From standing amongst his fans, to promoting rythmic clapping in support of an accapela "Desire," U2 really harnassed the crowd's energy. One incident in particular stuck out.. A large man was body surfing and was thrown forward over the guard railing, near the stage. He was wresteld to the ground by the security personnel, and escorted towards the back doors. Bono witnessed this, and literally intervened to rescue his fan. He pulled the large man onto the stage and embraced him, while continuing with his song. The fan was so energized by this that he bagan motioning the crowd for involvement and was rewarded by thunderous ovation. I guess that he was so energized by this that he took a head first, running dive into the crowd. This concert will live in mind forever. back
