Review

2002-02-20 - review submitted by Jacquelyn Renee Owens

The U2 show in Atlanta was entertaining, emotional, and memorable. Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen walked onto stage with a seeming effortlessness, as if they didn\'t even notice the tens of thousands of people cheering them on, dressed like cool cats in head-to-toe black and leather. Their harmony was angelic and practically transported the arena into a new deminsion--one of relentless feeling and strange numbness.

Why? Mostly because of the new found resonance of Elevation itself. After a long hiatus they came back in March, energized as ever, for an all out over the top performance. During their tour, 9/11 happened and Atlanta was one of the first post 9/11 shows. U2 paid tribute to the families of the victims of 9/11 by listing each and every \"lost\" name on a gigantic black drop with white light. Scrolling from bottom to top, (towards heavan, perhaps?) the names just kept coming, it seemed like there was no end. For a second it felt like we were all in space--no beginning and no end. That\'s what made it emotional for me, in fact, I even heard Bono\'s voice breaking intermittingly. Unexpected.

If I could have had one wish that night it would be to have all of my friends and family there with me at that moment. I wish everyone I knew could have been there to experience the transformation...

To this end, I hope this message will inspire someone...inspire them to constantly reach for understanding and to always, even during life\'s darkest hour, turn negatives into positives. Best wishes to all, and to all a good night!
