Review
2006-11-08 - Amazing show - terrible venue!! submitted by KerryThe show was amazing, both the music & the lights etc were phenomenal. Sadly the audience where we were sitting didnt really get into it. No-one was even standign up or dancing - pretty sad really because I thought it was so energetic.
Bono is a great ambassador for human rights & didnt over do the political rhetoric. The sight of all the mobile phones in the stadium glowing when he asked everyone to sms make Poverty History was really moving.
He also did a great job of 'localising' the gig by mentioning Australian issues & artists. crowd interaction was good as all the band members came down onto the extensions of the stage at various points. The large screens ensured that even if you werent close to the stage you didnt miss a thing as there were dedicated cameras for each member of the band & a four-way spilt screen to watch them all the majority of the time.
This is one of the all time best concerts (along with Pearl Jam) I have seen.
Sadly the great concert was ruined by the terrible organisation of the venue, both on entry & exit & the diabolical transport arrangments. Having been told to use 'park'n'ride from a local shopping centre, it took 2 hours to get away from the venue & out of the car park - even though it was only 2-3 kms away.
Would love to see U2 again (that was my fist time) but not at that venue. back
