I was at this show which was held at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, across the street from the campus of the University of Southern California. (I was a student there at the time.) The show was, if I recall correctly, hastily moved to this 15,000-plus arena after U2's spectacular performance a couple of weeks earlier at the US Festival in nearby San Bernardino.

The Sports Arena was not a bad venue for a rock and roll show: the acoustics and sight lines were excellent. However, on a muggy midsummer night, the air conditioning didn't work, so it got pretty hot in there. Many people on the floor of the arena passed out and had to be crowd-surfed to the side of the stage where U2's event staff gave them water and hustled them to a first aid station. Myself, I was up in the balcony, where there was bit of a cross breeze.

The show itself, which was one of the band's first Arena shows, was great and climaxed with Bono climbing all over the building (even onto the balcony) with his usual huge white peace flag.

The Alarm were the opening act.
