Review

2006-09-15 - U2, Squeeze, REM, the Alarm submitted by Joe

What an amazing afternoon and evening. I won't post a ridiculously long review. Just a few things that stood out.

- Such a strong lineup. Four solid bands, all at different stages of their careers.

- during REM's set, a fan threw a two-liter bottle of water (or something) and hit Peter Buck's guitar square on. Buck yelled out, "Nice shot" and the band kept playing. Hard to imagine, but REM wasn't very well received at this show.

- Standing in the crowd before U2 came on stage, I was about 80 yards from the stage. As soon as they came on the crowd surged forward and I was picked up off my feet and pushed about 20 yards closer to the stage. (I'm 6ft, 175 pds). It was amazing.

- When U2 came out for the encore, Bono told the crowd that he had been talking to a friend of his in the States and asked him if he could play one of his songs when he performed in Dublin. With that, the band launched into Bruce Springsteen's "My Hometown." Prettty cool.
