Review

2006-02-16 - Hats way off submitted by Ramon

Absolutely brilliant, U2's Mexico comeback was perfect. They didn't play my favorite song, Bad, but I will forgive them because the show was amazing. All the classics played, the 80,000 people there were enthusiastic and provided for a unique atmosphere found in very few places outside of Azteca. Bono gave his usual peace and love speech half way through (when will he realize things aren't as uncomplicated as he makes them seem) and played the audience very well (we love Mexico, sorry for taking so long to come back bla bla bla). He even sang a bit of Cielito Lindo. Norwegian Wood and Unchained Melody were welcome surprises. I was looking forward to Bullet with Butterfly Wings, which they sang in Monterrey, though. They played for about 2 hours which was great.

The opening act, The Secret Machines, were OK. It must be tough to open for U2, especially for a largely unknown band (in Mexico, at least) and in front of 80,000 fans desperate to hear the main act.

If I could, I would go see them again on Thursday for sure.
