Review

2005-12-23 - A few comments... submitted by Jerry Ray

I was at the Charlotte show, my third on the tour (after the two Atlanta shows). My seats were the worst of any of the three shows - way up in the nosebleeds, directly beside the stage on Edge's side. Kind of a letdown after being front and center in the ellipse in Atlanta. :-)

Regarding the sound quality one of the earlier reviewers mentioned, yeah, it was REALLY distorted. I could tell it was bad during the music during the intermission between bands - even that was so loud it was distorted. The vocals sounded OK, but the guitar was distorted at the start of the show, but things seemed to get better after a few songs.

Regarding the crowd's reaction to Bono's "soapboxing," it seemed a bit more negative in Charlotte than at the Atlanta shows. I don't really hear his mention of the NRA as a negative thing, more like a point of comparison of the size of the One Campaign to an organization that's well-known and powerful. But when he mentioned that One would soon have more members than the NRA, there were noticable boos and a couple "you sucks" directed at Bono from up in the "cheap seats" where I was at.

Regarding "Miss Sarajevo," I liked it a lot. It's true that many crowds don't have the patience to sit through a quiet song, but I really enjoyed it - I thought Bono sounded great singing the Pavarotti part.

The main thing that spoiled my experience was that they leave the overhead lights on over the aisles in the upper deck of the arena, and I was sitting right on the aisle. It really sucked to watch a show with the lights on. I was a little self-conscious singing and air guitaring and acting foolish, but I still had a good time.
