Review

2005-12-22 - Transcendent submitted by Colleen

I saw U2 on the last tour (in Portland), and my husband saw them on the Pop tour. While both those shows were good, this show was absolutely transcendent. Despite being located to the side/back of the stage, and up pretty high, there was so much energy in the air that there were moments I forgot I was at a rock show. Bono talked more than he did last tour, which was awesome, and made himself vulnerable to the audience at times. One of the best parts of the show was Miss Sarajevo, which was engrossing, to say the least. It was also neat to be let in on how much the band and the road crew appreciate each other, and to be part of thanking U2 for a great year. At the end of the show, when U2 sang Yahweh and then melted into 40, each member exited one by one. The last left on stage was Larry, which is fitting. He sat for a moment listening to the whole arena singing 40, and then spontaneously broke into drumming again, which was another great moment, because you could tell Larry was really feeling the vibe in the arena. Overall, an amazing show and a great exchange of energy between the band and the audience. What more can you ask for at a huge rock show, than to feel the band is communicating directly to you personally? Amazing.
