2005-12-20 - The Boys are back in town! submitted by donvon

As an Irishman I was eagerly awaiting the witnessing of my first U2 gig in USA. What's more the gigs in Dublin this year were only ok shows - however St Louis you have the honour of seeing one of the best U2 shows of all time! I have seen a lot of the gigs since the late 70s - as they say.....this was "even better than the real thing"!

Bono was in really good voice (as demonstrated on Miss Sarajevo), Edge was in Hendrix mode, Larry was giving it socks and Adam was doing what he is best at - being Mr.Consistent. What impressed me most about the show was the mature, confident and honest style of the band - really nobody else can do this the way they can.
Stand up Willie Williams for a great visual show and Joe O'Herlihy(Cork mafia) on sound.

The political messages were not as jarring as they seemed in Dublin - but the highlight of the show was on the intro to Bloody Sunday when Bono told the crowd, "America....this is your song now"! Never a truer word was said. This is a very Irish way to do things - older traditional Irish musicians pass songs on to newer aspiring musicians - they gift young musicians a piece of music and this is how it is remembered and lives on for generations. So, America you have the gift - mind it well.

The St Louis crowd were really up for it and they played an important part in making the show so memorable. The spirit was most definitely "in the house".
