Review
2005-12-18 - Great Show but confused over encore submitted by John A.This was my very first time seeing U2. I was in the second row, slightly behind Edge, so quite a good view. The Pond seemed to have good acoustics, certainly better than The Delta Center in Salt Lake City.Of course I would have loved to see them a second time here in Salt Lake, (only a 5 minute to the Delta Center from my house) as long as they were not nosebleed seats.
It was great how each member of the band came out with a spotlight and walked around the ellipse, then got the crowd going with "Love and Peace". They changed the setlist from the 2 previous nights in San Diego, opening with "Love and Peace" and playing "Vertigo" at the end of the set. Edge broke his string twice in "Sunday Bloody Sunday", in the beginning and near the end of the song. The guitar tech seamlessly handed off a replacement guitar so no big deal and Bono sang "The Edge has got it under control, no problem at all". Edge is one of my favorite guitar players, for sure.
Another interesting part of the show is when Devil-horned Tiffany appeared on the ellipse during "Mysterious Ways". Some of my favorite songs played were "Sunday Bloody Sunday","New Years Day","Still Haven't found" and "City of Blinding Lights", and also good to hear the new stuff that I wasn't quite as familiar with. The crowd sang along with alot of the songs and I had a great time.
The only thing that was odd is that it seemed the show ended with no real encore. We all sreamed for them to come back out but instead the house lights came up. I guess what happened is that earlier in the show there was a very short intermission and the band came back,so songs after that were really the encore. Anyway, I really enjoyed the show and happen to be listening to it as I write this review. back
