Review

2005-12-15 - First time U2 concert submitted by Tonya Hagen

I live in Cincinnati and just got back from seeing U2 in St Louis. I've longed to see this band in person. I have several concert DVD's praying that the chance for me to see them live would happen. Thank goodness for Ebay. I was able to get tickets to St Louis, so my daughter and I left out of Cincinnati at 8am Weds. and hit a snow storm 15 mins. into the drive. But we arrived at the Savvis Center around 2p. There were people camped out around the block waiting to (I'm assuming) purchase tickets for the floor.
We parked in the garage next to the Savvis and went for a walk. We killed time until the doors opened and then found our seats. We are left of the stage (Adam's side) in section 301. It really didn't matter where my seats were. I just had to be there.
I thought it was cool to be the first ones to see Kanye West open for the group. What a performer! He seemed a bit surprised at how well the crowd knew his material. It was great!
After his set, we watched them set up for U2 with great anticipation. I couldn't believe I was actually there. When they started playing, I just held my hands together with the excitement of a child on Christmas morning. It was everything that my friends and co-workers told me it would be and more.
I had heard on a news special that attending a U2 concert was like attending a religious ceremony.
It's true.
You go expecting to be entertained, but you come away with a completely different outlook on life. Bono, with his unlimited words of wisdom make you see just how much we take for granted; how just the smallests of actions on one person's part will grow into millions of voices. He makes you open your eyes to the world, to care about your brothers and sisters.
He pulled a small boy from the crowd during Sunday Bloody Sunday, holding the mic up to this childs mouth while he spoke 'no more' in such a profoundly innocent tone it spoke volumes. This is our future, or not, if we don't take the time to listen.

The mix of new and classic U2 was astounding. So, so
many of my favorites. Again, I found myself wondering if I was dreaming all this, or was I really there.

I have been to other performers concerts and have left disappointed for what was charged per ticket.
In these times of fans complaining that ticket prices are too high....I have to say, with U2, you get your
monies worth plus more.

Right after the concert and being on a complete U2 high, we got back on the road and headed back to Cincinnati, hitting rain, sleet and snow along the way. But we made it home safe and would go through it all again to see this amazing group.
