Review
2005-12-08 - I came to hear U2, not U2 singing Lennon submitted by AlleycatWell, this was my very first U2 concert after being a fan for 21 years and my mom forbidding me from going to the War tour with my older brother when I was 14 and "too young". I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. The stage set was awesome. I loved the curtain of lights with video. It was really creative. The sound at the Civic Center was great compared to Madison Square Garden where I usually see my concerts. They sang a few of the oldies (Gloria from Boy) but not nearly enough from War or The Unforgettable Fire. And maybe I'm in the minority but I absolutely love Miami, Please and Mofo from Pop. I so wanted to hear Walk On also or New Year's Day and one of these days, I just wish U2 would come out with a full string orchestra and do The Unforgettable Fire. The highlight of the night was Sarajevo Girl. Bono sang in Italian in a remarkable operatic tenor voice! It gave me chills. It was absolutely beautiful. But My biggest complaint was U2 singing Lennon for their 2nd encore. We came to hear U2, not The Beatles. What a disappointment. And you could feel it in the crowd. With their catalog of music they left us high and dry waiting for more. I was bummed. :-( back
