Review

2005-12-06 - Only actual FANS need apply... submitted by molly

Bono and the boys never fail to create passion and electricity, and their somber/inspiring, altruistic messages of love and peace are the cornerstones of what keep me coming back for more. i'm a teacher and really couldn't afford the $300+ tickets to attend the show last night, but i would have sold my soul to get there had it come to it. :)

i'm only 30 and know that so many other people have had intense experiences with these heavenly creatures and i've only seen them three times, but the internal connections and connections the band makes with thousands of people in the stadium are above and beyond anything i've experienced with "entertainment". last night was no exception.

like a marrionette, i was on my feet dancing, swaying, punching the air to gloria (yes!!!) and grooving as bono smiled just at ME (I'm being dramatic here, but man, it seemed like it at times...). I will be honest and say how disappointed i was with my senior citizen section. i've never felt like i was "in the way" by standing up at a u2 concert before, but last night it was as if my section (330, seats 1&2) was there because guys were forced to go there if they wanted to get laid by the girls they were with or because it was "the thing to do". the girl sitting next to me handed me one of those "one" copies and said, "i don't know what this means... here." it was really depressing. i know the band's been around for decades, but come on, you're not dead yet! stay up past your bedtime and feel the beauty and electricity a bit.

oh, well. i can only control me, and last night, i had a tough enough time doing that with MY BOYS there in front of me. forever, i will be grateful and happy with my experiences and joys (from 7th grade in Colorado to today as a teacher in Maine, with a baby girl...) with u2. they really are the songbook to my life, and last night's performance, with gloria included, was quite profoundly amazing.
