2005-11-26 - My First U2 Show!! submitted by Chrys

Wow!!! My first time checking out U2. I was stunned and delighted. I missed the Barrymore's gig in '81. Even though friends had called from Mtl to insist that I check out the show, I stupidly blew it off. So last night was make up time...I loved the show. They played a decent amount of old stuff, I Will Follow and New Years Day etc. and the newer stuff.. Vertigo, Beautiful Day was sumptuous and epic. I loved the stage set and how they could play to many areas of the skating rink that are not normally played to. I'm going to buy the U2 Vertigo DVD to help remember the evening. Thanks U2. Keep making records (as if they'll ever stop). I doubt I will ever be able to see the band again due to the outrageous cost of the tickets and total lack of availability. The crowd were affluent, older and totally devoted to the band. I guess the younger crowd just can't afford the show. Arcade Fire were on fire and practically burned the skating rink down to the ground!! I've been listening to their album since it came out and love the direction the band seems to be heading. I can't wait for the new album. I also checked out Bedouin Soundclash lastnight after U2...at Babylon and found out where all the kids were hanging out...Man can those boys rock. An excellent trio. They played their new single a cover of U2's "New Years Day"!!!!! During the song they added in a fantastic Clash tribute. Kind of like seeing U2 earlier in the evening, performing New Years Day and breaking out into the Clash's Rock the Casbah..I think there was something, inevitably, Clashlike about last night.
