Review
2005-11-22 - Vertigo 2005 Atlanta 11.19.05 submitted by joshuai've loved U2 for the vast majority of my life and finally fulfilled a long-time need as a fan: Saturday night, i saw U2 live for the very first time.
second night in Atlanta was a great one for me and, judging from the majority of the reviews posted here, a pretty hot night for most everyone else in attendence as well.
my highlight of the night basically began with Arcade Fire's "Wake Up" and burned right on through "City Of Blinding Lights" (which, since i don't own Atomic Bomb, i had never heard before. what a GREAT way to hear that song for the first time!), "Vertigo", which, i gotta tell ya, aside from just kicking much boo-tay, had the most radical light show accompaniment i've ever seen (the Live From Chicago DVD displays this very well, esp. at the end of the tune when the yellow lines are added into the chase!) :), and right on into "Elevation", which had me hurling myself skyward from note one. AWESOME!
i'm sorry to only mention the first three tunes, seeing as how the whole show was pretty outstanding. to be honest, i thought the technical high-point of the show, slightly even moreso than "Vertigo", was "Until The End Of The World" which sounded like my copy of Achtung, Baby! was playing over the Arena's p.a., it was so perfect. (love that song's skronk, anyway, man, so i am biased.) : ) what a great time!
the only hitch i encountered at the show was what i consindered to be a slightly lifeless crowd. (however, after having read other reviewer's comments, i'm beginning to think maybe it was just the section i was in, which was about six miles south of the moon on the Edge's side of the stage, so maybe the nosebleed effect explains the "standing still" plan of action.)
still, even with the section being a lil somber overall, my two next seat neighbors, a mom and her uber young (roughly 11, i'd say) daughter were awesome! both were just rockin' out and lovin' U2 from whistle to gun, man, and it was very cool to see a parent and her child having that kind of a time together in the name of rock and roll. you just gotta love music, don't you?
overall, what a great night! i am so glad to have finally gotten off the shnide and seen a U2 show. this, i will have to do again (hopefully) very soon. have a good one, y'all! back
