Review

2005-11-21 - First-timer and loved it submitted by Marty

My first time seeing U2 in concert, and while my wife was very excited (and did a lot of research on your site to see what they might play or change), I tried to keep expectations down. So they didn't have a hard time blowing them away, as they put on just a great show. We had good seats halfway up the lower section right at mid-oval to left, and Bono came out on our side a good bit. Amazing stage presence and comfort with the crowd, a real pro who just draws you in. Sound was great, bass was rumbling all of Phillips. Got a couple sharp photos with my tiny camera, and some video of the song Vertigo for my 9-year-old son who loves it. Hope that's not illegal, but they got us for several $35 t-shirts on top of pricey tix so seems like a fair trade.

Highlights: Vertigo, Still Haven't Found, Beautiful Day (too bad no Sgt. Pepper snippet for us), Miss Sarajevo's Pavrotti part (agree with last reviewer), Pride/Streets/One back to back, Mysterious Ways, With or Without you. The whole encore set was great, and glad they did First Time which isn't in every show. My wife thought guitar in Bad was off a bit and Bono's voice a little off-key at a few points, but I couldn't really tell and no one's perfect. I was really amazed that there were almost no lulls or boring parts.

Thanks to your site we figured Bad would be the last song (they alternate it with 40 as an ender) so we took right off after it, beat most everyone out of Phillips and the lot and went for a drink at the Four Seasons on the chance they might be staying a second night there. No luck on that but a good time, did meet some nice friends of REM and saw the Earth, Wind and Fire guitarist coming in as we were leaving. A great night, though my ears were ringing until morning!
