Review

2005-11-19 - Absolutely Magical and ...... I Apologize!! submitted by Tecumseh

After being a full-time stagehand and spotlight operator for eight years, I finally was able to bring my daughter (now seventeen) to work with me for her first rock concert ever. Her Daddy's a rock 'n roller at heart but, unfortunately, she has some forces in her life that claim the lie that all rock 'n rollers (and Catholics, etc) are going straight to hell unless they change their ways. Though she has ten years of training as a classical violinist (for which I am quite glad), she, too, is a rock 'n' roller who loves U2. For her to be sitting next to me at my spotlight and experience tonight's U2 show made for one of the most wonderful nights I have had as a father! She was quite pleased and impressed, to say the least! I have seen about every top rock/pop/country act that is out there today and I can say this -- there is absolutely NOTHING like U2 live in concert. Maybe this sounds silly to some, but as a Spirit led-and-filled Christian, I do sense God's presence at a U2 show. It was magical. And I am proud that U2 uses its celebrity to do much good in the world rather than to live the meaningless rock star life! THIS APOLOGY -- as a spotlight crew, we were a bit rough tonight. It especially hurt after Bruce, the lighting director, told us at the top of the show that his experience has been that when he comes to Atlanta, he always has good spot-ops. As a crew, we are sorry we let you down, Bruce. We are professionals who take our work seriously. Before tonight's show we spot-ops are having a brief in-house meeting to talk about it. We'll do better for you, Bruce, for the band and for the fans tonight.
