2005-11-18 - Awed and Amazed! submitted by ~LunaFor my first concert in over half a life time, I couldn't have chosen a better venue. Due to a series of unfortunate events, a friend of mine's husband suffered an injury that wouldn't allow him to travel from Jacksonville to Tampa, so she asked if I'd go with her. I'd grown up along side U2's music, so I jumped at the chance.
We met many a fan outside of the venue (hey Liz, Nikki, Beth, Laurie!)and made a few friends along the way. It was a fun way to pass the day away. Inside, in General admission, aside from the minimal shoving and pushing, and the crazy lady with the pink hat in her hand, it was pretty cool. Institution did a great job opening, but the energy level was nothing compared to when the lights dimmed, and the first strains of "City Of Lights" came up.
The passion that Bono holds in his heart for his music is palpable. The warmth and energy with which he sings, The power that the band plays with, and what they give to the audience is tangible. What an amazing gift. I was brought to tears during "Sometimes you can't Make it On Your Own" Like Bono, my father is no longer of this world, and I felt him there beside me, for the duration of the song.
This was an amazing night. Thank you Mae and Dave for allowing me this honour of seeing U2. I'm sorry that it was at such a cost to your health Dave, but I know you, you'll soon be on your feet.
Thank you Bono, The Edge, and he Rest of the band, Keep singing, it is your heart's work. back
