Review

2005-11-09 - Reunited with U@ submitted by Nancita

I was a seriously addicted U2 fan from early 80's to early 90's. My world revolved around them, and I never missed a show. Then they altered their familiar style and I felt abandoned by their new turns. So I turned my back on this band and let them do their Rock Star thing for over 10 years... but now I feel like we're reunited.

November 9 I attended my 1st U2 concert in ... 14 years? 15 years? But I felt like we all reunited and that no time had passed.

Their political messages, the synergy between the band and the crowd- it was all a pleasant journey back.

We're all in our 40s now. We've all grown. But we've grown with our idealism, our values, and our committment to social change intact. In fact, I'd say it's even stronger. I am so grateful that a band of their stature is still delivering political messages to the world, and I know that their message is not falling on deaf ears.

Musically they've matured and filled their sounds with more nuances. A soft a capella One Tree Hill became an interlude, but it satisfied my need to hear that song. Sure I missed hearing I Will Follow, but the set never felt unwhole.

They gleaned the meaningful pieces from their long career and wove them into a unified message that spoke to many generations last night, not just mine..
