Review

2005-11-06 - THE BOYS LET IT ALL OUT FOR THE CROWD.. submitted by Christopher James Patrick Docherty

This was the 4 th show for me this tour the first 3 were in Toronto. After driving 5 hours to the Palace, I took my brother " IT WAS HIS FIRST U2 SHOW ". The boys opened up with city of blinding lights to get the crowd going, i was just outside the ellipse just at the tip. After the first 4 songs the boys started on Gloria, and it was like no one in the Palace new what u2 was playing they looked like they had seen a ghost. Then after the meat of the show Bono was talking and the Edge made his way over to the keyboard to start into Miss Sarajevo when Bono started to sing softly the first few lines into the song most of the crowd again looked like a deer in headlights "understandable since the song wasnt released as a single in the U.S". After the song they went into the usual for the vertigo tour Pride, Streets and One, but this time the boys threw in MLK and made reference to Rosa Parks by changing some words in the song. It was great to here MLK since they dont play the full song very often, as in not very often i mean it was the first time i heard the song since Joshua Tree 87 " WASNT A SNIPPET IT WAS ALMOST THE FULL SONG ". When the boys came out for the first encore it was just Bono and the Edge with the acoustic guitar going into " THE FIRST TIME " which has made its way into the set for the 3 rd leg of the tour, and it was great to here them touch into the Zooropa album. With Bono and the Edge at the top of the ellipse they next went into " WHO'S GONNA RIDE YOUR WILD HORSES " and by the reaction of the crowd it was a favourite of the 20,000 plus concert goers. Near the end of the song i think the Edge forgot to get his butt back to the main stage for the beginning of " WITH OR WITHOUT YOU" Adam and Larry allready started into the song and the Edge was making his way back and Bono was at the top of the ellipse picking up a rose from a young lady while the 20,000 people started to sing the first verse of the song while Bono with his sheepish grin just looked around the Palace looking very pleased with the crowd. At the end of the song Bono did a blurb about we havnt played this song very much on the tour ( i thought they were going into FAST CARS) and agian this night they surprised me and probably 5,000 other people who are actually real u2 fans going back many years (not just back to 97 POP) they started to play "CRUMBS FROM YOUR TABLE". Then to finnish almost a perfect night in the Palace they finnished the show with BAD like they did the second night in Toronto. It was an amasing 2 plus hours with the 20,000 plus close friends and the five members of u2. 9 out of 10 for the show, sorry it took so many words to give my thoughts on the show. I really dont think you can talk about a u2 show in just a few lines. Thank You Christopher James Patrick Docherty. Oshawa Ontario Canada.. P.S. I hope i didnt offend anyone in my review....
