2014-11-07 - Bono climbs up to the balcony submitted by Mike Stanley

It was like an explosion of attitude and power. I remember this gig vividly, and I will till the day I die. The Edge was awesome and Bono scared the living daylighting out of everyone when he climbs the amp stack and clung on to the old balcony. When he decided to come back on the stage the amp stack swayed and nearly toppled. The sound at the DeMont was always fantastic and the mixing meant you could actually hear what was being sung. Bono professed that they would never use electronic instruments when The Edge sat down and played the opening to October (a promise I bet he wished he kept when the midi sequencer failed three times three years later at Milton Keynes whilst trying to perform \\\'Bad\\\'). Adam\\\'s head flung around in time to the pulsing bass throughout The Ocean and he kept it going for bloody ages. Eventually being the last to leave the stage he simply put his bass on its stand and coolly walked off. I remember thinking then that I\\\'d just witnessed the best rock band the world has ever seen...Of course the whole band stayed behind and came out and spoke to everyone who\\\'d waited for them. They laughed and joked with their fans and signed every autograph asked of them. Depeche Mode had ignored their fans a month or two earlier...where are they now?
