Review

2001-11-03 - Philly submitted by Billy

When I was 14 years old I bought The Unforgettable Fire on Grafton St. in Dublin before it was released in America and I played it until the tape broke. U2 was my youth, I went out of my way to see them as much as I could, then came college and I was introduced to the sweet sounds of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. I saw U2 for the last time 10 years ago during the Achtung Baby Tour, it was the beginning of the whole Zoo TV thing and I must admit that I was totally turned off by the whole Zoo thing. A week after that last U2 show I went to see the Jerry Garcia Band and my whole musical voyage was thrown out of whack and set on a different, new, and exciting course. I left Zoo TV and U2 behind and turned into a full fledged hippie freak, I followed the Dead and Phish all over the country, I've grown accustomed to free for all jam style music. I never lost my love for U2, the old songs still remained close to my heart, even when i was hocking all my old U2 cd's at the cd exchange for money for Grateful Dead tickets. Anyway after not seeing U2 since 1991 I decided that the time had come so I got a ticket for last nights show in Philadelphia. All I can say is WOW, this was the most emotional concert I've been to in a very long time and I must admit that I shed a tear or two during some of the songs. Sunday Bloody Sunday brought chills to my spine, Bad was intense as was Pride and New York was just sad. Anyway I'm very happy that my musical voyage has come full circle and that I rediscovered this wonderful band from North Dublin, made me feel like a kid again and realize that they helped set me on my musical voyage, taught me what it really means to be hippie kid, its not drugs or long jams or tye dye, its simply wanting and trying to attain Peace On Earth!
