Review

2005-10-24 - Rome submitted by Chris

Hello all ;)

I am back from the lovely city of ROME! Saw many nice places, walked and ate a lot!

Obviously the highlight, and the reason why I went to Rome was the CONCERT!
Left the hotel at 9.00am, and by 10am I was at the stadio olimpico, (impressed how good the transport system in Italy is) I wanted to be there early, so that I manage to get into the inner circle of the stage….and only the first thousand people are allowed in there…
Although I was there 10 hours early!! Still I found many people already waiting outside the stadium, guess many slept there cause you could see the tents and the sleeping bags.
As the hours went by, the crowd got bigger, so I couldn’t afford to go and buy something to eat cause I will end up loosing my place. So resisted for 10hours without any food or water. The weather was hot, 38 degrees, and that didn’t help at all. Every thirty minutes someone was fainting, and taken to the pronto soccorso !
When the organizers saw this, they had a brilliant idea! They got a fire engine, and drenched us all, it was so funny, I was totally soaked, felt like I jumped into the sea with my clothes on! And was kinda concerned about my digital camera.
It was at this time that the crowd went crazy, we heard the Vertigo guitar riff !!! U2 were in the stadium doing the sound check! It was a small preview…. but still the adrenalin was sky high!

When it was finally time to open the gates, it was hell, everyone pushing to try to get in. It was pretty easy for me since I was at the front !! Once my ticket stub was gone, I sprinted across the stadium to go to the inner circle!!

Once in there, asked one of the security if I can go out, he nodded and he stamped my neck  really cool. So went round the stadium, bought some food and some U2 memorabilia to add to my collection !

The Support Acts were Feeder, Ash. They were good, but nobody was bothered, we wanted U2 !!!

When all of a sudden the stadium lights went out………I knew it was time…..*gooseflesh*

Bono was in front of me!! wooooo
U2 did an amazing show, simply mind blowing. I was singing out loud all throughout the concert.
Adam was really close, he was all the time smiling at us.
There were many nice moments…..just to mention a few….
During the song I Will Follow, Bono spotted an inflatable bottle in the crowd and gestured that he wanted that bottle. When it had reached the front row, he realized that it had some Heineken advert on it, and so he said "I don't think they need any more advertising..! We want to advertise love! We want to advertise soul! Imagination!"
A lucky guy was pulled on stage at the beginning of Elevation and, after a short conversation with Bono, he said an Italian phrase into the microphone which Bono then translated into English: "Tonight, Ireland and Italy are getting married!"
A girl was pulled on stage during ‘With Or Without You’ wiping off Bono's sweaty forehead, he practically sang the whole song hugging her. It was a very nice moment.
‘Miss Sarajevo’ was amazing, obviously Pavarotti wasn’t there to sing with Bono, and everyone was impressed when Bono sang the high notes that Pavarotti usually sings, and the song was dedicated "to all the families, all the lives destroyed, broken by what happened today in Egypt"
‘One’ was dedicated to pope John Paul, very touching moment.
Sadly an awesome time has come to an end, it was an unforgettable show. I was overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and the passion of the Italian audience.

Thanks to U2 for all the emotions you keep giving to my life !!
